MINI at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show
MINI will present its four models and new equipment options at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Since the market launch of MINI more than two years ago its community of enthusiasts has grown to over a quarter of a million “members” in more than 70 countries. And
the zenith of its popularity has still to be reached, a fact underlined by the growing number of honours it has received: only just recently in July the MINI Cooper was named “Top Automotive Client” in the Top Clients Report 2003 published by Strategy magazine in Canada. This is a remarkable achievement for the smallest vehicle on Canada’s roads.
After the UK and the USA, Germany has become the third largest market for MINI automobiles and it is constantly expanding. Just one more good reason for MINI to present its models at the 60th International Motor Show in Frankfurt. By the end of July 2003 106,603 MINI vehicles had been sold worldwide, 16,222 having been purchased in Germany. Compared with the same period last year, this represents an increase in Germany of nearly 25 percent.
MINI One D - off to a good start.
In June of this year the new model, the diesel-powered MINI One D, made its first appearance. This extremely economical but powerful machine from Oxford combines the economy of a modern diesel engine with the unique, typical MINI design, and the go-kart-like driving feel. So it stands to reason that the fourth model in the MINI range is also in great demand.
Within its first two months of being on sale more than 2,600 MINI fans made the decision to purchase one of these nippy little diesels. This truly signifies that only just a short
time after appearing on the scene, the MINI One D has already come up to expectations. The first MINI with a diesel engine is offered almost exclusively on Europe’s diesel-friendly markets - in Germany we anticipate a market share of around ten percent for the first full sales year.
From the road to the cinema screen.
As if to symbolize its first motion-picture appearance in “The Italian Job”, the MINI will be presented at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show in its role as a “pursuit car”. Just as the old Mini proved in the original 1969 version of the film, the MINI is suitable for both everyday use and for playing “Cops and Robbers”. With its Aerodynamic Kit and roof spoilers, additional headlamps, 17″ alloy wheels with cross spokes, and bonnet stripes, the MINI is adequately equipped to tackle any extreme situation. The lettering “The Italian Job”, positioned below the indicators and available only as a limited edition, rounds off the package. In the motion-picture three MINIs in Indy Blue, Pepper White
und Chilli Red play the leading role, but MINIs in other colours can, of course, also be quickly and simply converted into film heroes. The Italian Job accessory kit is now available from MINI dealers for around 4,000 Euros (MINI Cooper) or 3,800 Euros (MINI Cooper S) respectively (incl. VAT, excl.fitting). So MINI fans may now take their very own film star from the big screen onto the road.
The ultimate sound experience.
With the new Digital Power Sound Module the MINI accessories programme offers the HiFi enthusiast an audio system that meets the most stringent demands on performance and sound quality.
The system’s fully digital audio amplifier, with which MINI holds a unique position in the market, has 660 watts musical power output. A combination of six large-volume, high-performance loudspeakers with a sound level pressure of 126 dB creates a full tone with rich basses and distinct trebles. The best sound system currently available from MINI has been adapted especially for this nimble car’s space and acoustic characteristics and designed for the retrofitting of MINI audio systems incorporating the radio “Boost”. This exclusive audio system, which offers highest quality in acoustics, sound and finish quality, will be exclusively available from MINI dealers for around 1,500 Euros (incl. VAT, excl. fitting) at the beginning of autumn this year. This is around half the price of comparable systems offered on the accessory market.
More power with tuning kits from the John Cooper Works.
No other names are more closely linked to MINI than John Cooper and his son Mike. Mike Cooper will present a MINI Cooper in Chili Red at the MINI booth at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show. It will feature a John Cooper Works tuning kit. Delivering 200 bhp at 6,950 revs, this power machine will reach a top speed of 226 km/h. The 18″ wheels designed exclusively by the John Cooper Works, and the corresponding sport seats with adjustable leg support round off the over-all appearance of this racing machine.
