MINI enters 2004 with a bevy of awards from Automobile Magazine, Consumer Digest, Autobytel, Inc. Strategic Vision, The Car Book, Automotive.Com and Edmunds.Com.
These accolades add to an impressive list of over 40 awards, continuing a winning streak for MINI since prior to the car’s launch in March 2002.
New Enhancements Sweeten Pot for MINI Motorsport Competitors
MINI USA announces new changes in its motorsport awards program for 2004. Following a successful 2003, the program is now expanded to include more classes and offer increased prize money in select categories for MINI competitors.
MINI is now included in all classes under Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Solo competition. In addition, MINI USA has doubled the prize payout for first, second and third place finishes in the Tire Rack Solo II National Championship with a first place cash prize of $1,000.
MINI Convertible, in Miniature!

Modeled on the upcoming, and soon to be officially revealed MINI Convertible, this miniature MINI will be on the market (in Europe at least) even before parents will be able to drive the new MINI Convertible for themselves!

The MINI Cooper was BMW Great Britain’s second best selling used car of 2003
4874 MINI Coopers were sold as part of the used car programmed, MINI Cherished. The MINI Cooper was pipped at the post by BMW’s best selling model, the 318i. 4929 ‘Approved Used’ 318i BMWs were sold in 2003, just 55 more than the MINI Cooper.
A total of 10,212 MINIs (One, Cooper, Cooper S, and MINI One D) were sold through MINI Cherished in 2003.
New sales volume highs for all brands, 3,000 new jobs created
Munich - January 27, 2004 … The BMW Group has continued to perform well in 2003, keeping inline with its plan. With 1,104,916 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce Motorcars sold, the Group achieved a new sales volume record and surpassed the previous year’s (2002) record of 1,057,344 units by 4.5%. As a result of the lower US dollar exchange rate, revenues fell by 2.1% to 41,525 million euros (2002: 42,411 million euros). Excluding the effect of exchange rate changes, revenues grew by more than 4%. The BMW Group was therefore able to strengthen its international position despite the difficult economic conditions facing some of the world’s automobile markets.

Saturday 24th January MINI UK held an event to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Paddy Hopkirk/Henry Liddon victory in the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally. The pair won the event outright driving a BMC (British Motor Corporation) Works MINI Cooper S (Car No.37, 33EJB) on 23rd January 1964, winning a hard fought race against strong opponents, the toughest competition coming from Ford and Saab.

UK One & Cooper Convertible Launch Date Confirmed.
MINI UK have confirmed to MINI2 that the MINI Convertible will go on sale in the UK Saturday 26th June 2004. We believe the UK will be the first, or among the first markets to see the new soft top MINI go on sale. MINI USA are still officially quoting “summer”, we expect late August, early September, but could be wrong!

MINI2 launched January 15th 2001
Several months prior to the MINI Cooper being released on sale, and at a time when workers at BMW Plant Oxford were debating with unions whether or not to accept the latest pay deal offered to them by BMW, a strike was a very real possibility. Our first story after launch (18th January) was also a fairly down beat report on public reaction from the Detroit Motor Show.
