“Let’s go have some fun, I told my wife,” he said. “This is just the beginning.”
MINIs On Top features in a fantastic report over at Boston.com, the report begins:
“SARGENT’S PURCHASE, N.H. — From above, you could look down and see the Minis slithering up the twisting coils of the Mount Washington Auto Road.
The event was Minis On Top, and before the day was done, more than 160 of the hottest, coolest cars in nearly a decade had snaked their way from the sunny floor of the Mount Washington Valley into the clouds and wind that ripped the summit.
For the Auto Road, it was a remarkable day. It began with the steady plopping sounds of an eight-mile footrace up the mountain. That was followed by the sleek leather, glistening chrome, and V-Twin rumble of hundreds of Harley-Davidsons and their owners, in New Hampshire for the annual Motorcycle Week at Loudon and Weirs Beach.
And then came the Minis in a big rally. Many of the participants had that morning left the fog rolling in off the low ocean at Arcadia National Park in Maine and come here to climb into the clouds.
What was remarkable was that this was no formal group, no Mini club. Instead, it was a group of enthusiasts congealed by what Richard Frierman of Cambridge, an organizer, called “a totally organic start-up.” By that he meant word-of-mouth nside various groups, in Cambridge, on Cape Cod, and beyond, and mostly over the Internet at such websites as mini2.com and minisontop.com.”
