MINI2 attends a special preview event at Plant Oxford, previewing the new MINI to enthusiasts and clubs.
Saturday 28th October 2006, MINI UK held a special “VIP Preview Event” for MINI owners and enthusiasts, where the new second generation MINI was shown for the first time in public, ahead if it’s 18th November release date.
MINI enthusiasts from far and wide, including a number from MINI2, attended the event and had the chance to talk to Marcus Syring (MINI designer) and other members of the MINI team about their likes, dislikes, hope and fears for the next generation and beyond. The event also included a lengthy and very interesting factory tour where the new and current generation MINIs could be seen being built side by side.

MINI2 gets behind the wheel of the new MINI Cooper.
This was the first time we’d driven the new MINI Cooper. After testing the MINI Cooper S quite some time ago, it seemed a little strange to be finally getting our mitts on the new Cooper, which is after all the best selling model in the MINI range and as such you may have thought the Cooper deserved more of a fanfare than it has received at launch.

MINI2 Drives the new MINI Cooper S at the International Media Launch in Barcelona. Turns out the new MINI is very much the same, yet ever so different.
This wasn’t the first time we’d experienced driving the new MINI Cooper S, MINI2 were fortunate enough to be one of the few invited to an exclusive predrive at the Zandvoort Circuit in the Netherlands. However, this was our first time behind the wheel of a fully finished production model and, so the engineers assured me, the suspension and cornering brake control settings had been slightly fettled and fine tuned since our first experience of the R56 MINI Cooper S.

At the 2006 Paris Motorshow (aka Paris Mondial de L’Automobile) the new, second generation MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S were unveiled.
The wraps are now officially well and truly off the new MINI. The new car, due to go on sale in Europe and the UK from November 18th 2006, had it’s debut public outing on the 28th September. Having spent almost an entire day crawling all over the car in various trim and spec levels, and talking at length to Marcus Syring of MINI Design, as well as other members of the MINI team at the show, MINI2 reports back in full in our lasting impressions of the new second generation MINI.
