Not much to report from Sunday’s driving. We had a quiet day today really. I can add that the rear seat access is so much improved, I know I’ve already mentioned that, but taking our three year old’s car seat in and out of the back of the new MINI is so much easier than the old model, as is getting in to fasten his buckles and the like. And the wider rear seat bases make a difference too, making fitting in the seat even easier than before. Who says you cant have a MINI as a family car?
The engine continues to impress in terms of it’s usable power, however the noise it makes when just pootling around town can be less than flattering. Under acceleration and when having fun it sounds great, but at times when idling or cruising at low speed, negotiating a multi story car park, it can sound a little like an old diesel engine. A new definition of “Chelsea Tractor” perhaps.
But I’m being harsh, overall the new car feels that much more a better complete package than the outgoing model. You can talk about the style as much as you like, but everyone will have their own views on what they like or not about the new looks, but in terms of interior comfort it’s leaps ahead. Again, when packing the family in the car, my wife found the extra front leg room a real boon when her seat was moved forward to make way for our son’s legs in the rear, no more knocking legs on the hard plastic centre column of old. And I too much prefer the new driving position, increased leg room, and adjustable reach of the steering wheel.
Monday will probably be another easier day, using the car as our regular run around, but Tuesday we plan to have some fun filming the car “at play”, which we’ll publish later in the week. Always happy to attempt to answer any queries you may have in the forum conversation, which can be found by clicking here.
