With the latest addition to the MINI family, BMW Group appear to have another guaranteed hit on their hands. It’s a safe bet to say that this will be one of “the cars” to be seen in following it’s launch this summer, but have BMW managed to keep the MINI the real “drivers car” that’s won over the motoring press and the car buying public so empathically, or has it all one a bit floppy with the roof peeled off?

MINI UK Announces Pricing and Specification Details of its New Range Topping MINI Cooper S Convertible
The MINI Cooper S Convertible will make its UK debut at The Sunday Times Motor Show Live on 25th May. It will be priced at £17,595 and will go on sale in the UK at the end of August. Just like the MINI One Convertible and MINI Cooper Convertible, the MINI Cooper S Convertible will be built at Plant Oxford in the UK.

Extra Weight, Extra Power for Soft Top S.
MINI2 originally reported this rumour in early February, and we’re now as certain as we can be without official confirmation the Convertible Cooper S will come with a maximum power output of 170 bhp and a healthy 220 nm (160 lb/ft) of torque. This compares to the standard cars 163 bhp / 210 nm figures. The reason, we understand,
is purely to counteract the increased kerb weight of the soft top car, to keep performance figures healthy.

North American Debut in Vancouver, Canada
The MINI Cooper Convertible is set to make it’s North American Debut at the Pacific International Auto Show in Vancouver, Canada (March 26 - April 4), the Convertible will then make it’s US debut at the New York International Auto Show this April.
