I don't know how many of you read popsci, it's a great magazine. Anyways,their newest issue has a special on the Future Of The Car. In it, they talkof a Mr. Singh who works in a city called Mysore in India. He's dremeled out the cylinder heads to allow for higher compression and better fuel mixture. Apparently the fuel stops mixing properly at high compression rates resulting in spontaneous explosions. His design apparently makes the engine whisper quiet, increases fuel efficiency by 20% and can idle so slow that you can count the fan blades as it's moving. This design gets rid of the need for gears, as you can go at 5 mph. in 3rd gear and accelerate smoothly, with no engine bog or stumble. He's tested this out on over 50 cars, and I just thought it was pretty cool. If it was put on cars here, and on the MINI, it would really revolutionize the internal combustion engine!
