| I've followed the rotary's development a bit since a friend bought a RX2 in the late '70s. While the ENGINE is light and powerful, I've felt Mazda didn't do enough to put it in a suitably light chassis. Imagine a 250hp rotary in the Miata! Instead, we get it in a 3000 pound 4-door, where its light weight goes unappreciated. It also seems to use a lot more fuel than a 250hp reciprocating engine, so if you're not taking advantage of the light weight and small size - its only obvious virtues - you're not getting much benefit. In a MINI (or a Lotus Elise?), I might be more impressed. "I'll shoot for the queen, and you for, well, whomever." |
