18s won't help the grip. The tires would but wheels won't.
If the new tire/wheel combo weigh more than what you have now the handling will change as well. Not for the better.

The new wheels and tyres will weigh slightly less than my S-spokes. The tyres are also wider - 215/35/18 so this should help to improve traction, although traction at the moment is actually suprsingly good with the DSC turned off.
