I just found this out too. My situation isn't the same as I have runflats but wondered if I could get a flat too. The MINI mobility kit is the only option unless you want the spare in the boot as you say. The trouble is that the release handle, etc. is not present in cars which don't get the spare from the factory and it would be quite a job to add it after delivery.
