Offline | What can be done with a Works? I've been reading this thread http://www.mini2.com/forum/engine-dr...1320autos.html and it would seem that you guys can work a little magic with what are effectively BMW/ JCW parts. My question is simple really; we all know that the JCW were (in most cases) pushing less than the quoted HP out of the factory, although I love my Works I've never felt that it was significantly faster than the S I test drove before I ordered it. In your experience what can be done to the JCW to bring it into line with what it should be outputting or above and can this all be done with BMW parts, if not how 'stealth'/ reverseable would the modifications be and of course what sort of cost are we looking at? I'm thinking of a package along the line of Roland's JCW first stage upgrade. Thanks in advance MB www.kaesminiclub.com - For runs and meets all over Kent and East Sussex! |

Offline | What year is your JCW? 06 Plate Where would you like to see a gain in torque / bhp ? Ideally I'd like to see an increase in acceleration in a straight line, I don't drive agressively in twistys very often and I won't be taking her on the track, I'd like the car to feel special but I'd prefer not to sacrifice drivability over long runs. The car is used for a variety of types of journey many quite short but with the odd 350-400 mile motorway run. I suspect an increase in torque would be more of an asset to this, is that right? What is your driving style ? 80 on the autobahn using cruise control but I like to get up to that 80 ASAP, hard acceleration around town, I enjoy driving in the countryside and seeing what she'll do around corners but rarely on the limits of the cars Cooper S SS+ suspension. I'd like the car to be able to acomplish the 0-60 times I expected when I bought it rather than needing the Stig to get close to them. I got beaten by a Mazda 3 MPS up to motorway cruising speed yesterday, if theres anything that can be done about that, then that would be great but I do understand those are quoted as making about 250hp with 0-60 of 5.8 One of the main considerations for me as I mentioned is that the car is still under warranty and will be for at least another year. If I didn't dislike the styling of the 2nd gen I'd probably be switching to a new JCW with the turbo, still might. Hope that gives you an idea, I don't know if any of it is achieveble within the boundries I've set? Thanks MB www.kaesminiclub.com - For runs and meets all over Kent and East Sussex! |

Online | The obvious answer has already be done by Jan 2.0 stoker engine in a GP ![]() On a serious note I would consider the following options for the stealth look; 1 GP IC with GP top cover 2 JCW ex manifold 3 ECU Tune 7500rpm limit I would ask your local dealership via e-mail whether fitting a Janspeed aftermarket ex manifold or a GRS Intercooler would void your warranty, if they reply with No then I would use these instead. Obviously fitting a RMW head and cam would also be the ultimate stealth look as well I wonder what the mechanic would say after a road test![]() Slicks 11.77@115.92mph Street tyres 12.162 @ 119.02 It's not how much you spend but how well you spend it |

Offline | Sounds interesting, do you know how easy it is to obtain the GP IC, I thought the GP parts were only released if you had a GP? I presume the JCW manifold is the JCM one fitted to the challenge cars? What kind of BHP would you expect to release with a tune on a Works with those mods? Do you think it would be running at the 210 the factory optomistocally quotes ![]() Sorry for all the questions Thanks MB www.kaesminiclub.com - For runs and meets all over Kent and East Sussex! |

Online | One of our customers the other week made 232 with the 11% JCW pulley a Janspeed manifold and a GTT IC. It was actually pulling 14.7 psi or 1 bar of boost. I've always liked the idea of the 11% pulley and reving it higher which has been proven by Jan and Hubie to work really well. No need to feel sorry thats how we learn, and I'm still learning even at my age ![]() Slicks 11.77@115.92mph Street tyres 12.162 @ 119.02 It's not how much you spend but how well you spend it |

Offline | Matblack, I'm having the Janspeed fitted to mine next time I'm at 1320 so I'll keep you posted on what it gains and how it sounds with the JCW exhaust. Paul was really surprised on how easy the JCW exhaust was to fit so we'll see how it fares when mated with aftermarket parts. I like the sound as stealth as possible and find the JCW exhaust perfect, quieter than stock under normal driving and more beef under full throttle ![]() |
