there are two different types of roof replacement, those for roof wear generally just have the canopy replaced and a fix applied to the mechanism, and then there is a full replacment for failure of operation and serious rattles

Sometimes rattles can be worked out by adjusting the existing roof arms, but more than often the dealer resorts to a complete change over as this will then also give the latest version of the roof.

I'd let them have a go at replacing it, if it still rattles or doesn't close then keep on pushing for them to resolve or even for you to be able to hand the car back, which I am sure neither you or the dealer wants to do

reminds me, still need to get mine booked in for roof wear replacment, but there is too much sun to let her go in the shop for a long period of time

The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive?
