Road tax is based on the official CO2 Emmission Figure for cars registered on or after 1st March 2001.
My 52 Cooper is in Band D ( 151 - 165 CO2) currently £125.
Band E (166 - 185) is £150 and Band F (over 185) is £165.
These are all for petrol cars.
