| down tubes The silver paint (officially called white silver) on the dashboard legs (officially called down tubes) is shamefully weak.
There really is no excuse for it.
Many mini's were getting scratches on the down tubes before they even left the factory and had to be replaced.
So many in fact that BMW have now implemented (last 3 months) a protective blanket to cover them whilst they are in the factory. Thats proof enough that BMW are aware of the pathetic scratch resistance of the white silver paintwork.
It even takes a certain skill to put the damn things on without scratching the paint!!
In BMW's defence, these parts are made by suppliers, not BMW, but regardless, the issue is not new, and yet it has still not been addressed.
In fact, I have noticed over the past few months that the scratch resistance on white silver down tubes has got worse rather than better.
Without doubt it's in the top 10 of my personal grudges with the car.
If ever there was an argument for anthracite interior, it is that the anthracite paint is much much more resistant to damage.
