What did yopu expect. Everyone (OK, allot of people) was complaining about the gearing being too high and hard to launch from a stop so BMW/MINI in their infinite wisdom decided, for once, to listen to their customers and lower the gearing to make it easier to launch and offer slightly quicker acceleration. The consequence is lower fuel mileage. I think that everyone will just have to learn to live with it. At least until we can get BMW/MINI to raise the gearing again.

Maybe we could start a letter writting campaign or a petition.

I have always like the original gearing and wasn't particularly happy when it was changed.

Motor on, Dudes and Dudettes!!!
