Like Rakey says, I have a JCW Strut brace on my Cooper. There were no modification required to fit it, I simply needed to remove the battery cover (A bit annoying I admit)
There is a low profile battery cover you can buy.
If you google for a "Low Profile Battery cover" there are some links for MINI Coopers.
