Yes, airbags can in and of themselves cause injuries, mostly abrasions and burns, so they are being designed better to actuate only when needed.
There is another thread though about a guy in the Phillipines who's airbag did not deploy and the driver subsequently died of injuries sustained in the crash. Here again however, even though it was NOT a roll-over, from the description I could see that it could look like one to the sensors, therefore no deployment. It will take a forensic reconstruction of the accident to know for sure.
Still other threads bring up harness faults that cause the airbag warning light to illuminate. If the warning light is on, the airbag system sees a fault and the airbags will not deploy. I hope that this problem has now been fixed, but I plan to watch for it in my MINI. |
