Thanks for the replies.

After having a good look at the grills today I've discovered that it is possible to remove the "S" completely. The only problem is that it leaves a rather ugly S shaped mount underneath it so I decided to refit it. I then noticed that the red colour on the S badge is only a sticker so I decided to bite the bullet and peel it off. It left lots of sticky residue but once this was cleaned up it looked great and now isn't quite as in your face as the original red trimmed grills.

I'll stick a pic up at the weekend.
