Yes 1144s are better than Green Stuff (though still nowhere near good enough for 'uprating' with stock size front discs,) the stock pads are actually pretty good We are currently testing pads to supply as part of our GTT stock size grooved front & rear disc 'kit'. The right pad for a monster big front disc /caliper setup will not be the best pad for stock size discs. Likewise putting the same pad in front & rear is not generally correct for a FWD car. However 4WD cars often work best with the same compound front and rear.
Generally speaking less dust means less braking & more disc glazing.
