Okay....just to add fuel to the fire. I've used Sunoco 93 octane almost exclusively since we've had our 2003 MINI and never experienced the cold start problems. Also "no-name" gas from an indian reservation which has had ethanol in the mix for many years. Same results...no problems.

I remember reading some unfavorable comments somewhere about using Shell V-Power in the MINI, so I've stayed away from it. Besides, I get Sunoco 93 for 10-cents off a gallon every Thursday.
