I think if they got rid of him then there would have been rioting.
A lot of the players that aren't there I'm glad that they have moved on into systems that could use them more effectively. The Caps are in re-building years ahead. As long as we can hold on to Ovechkin then we may be o.k. The Caps are a really young team now hopefully they will be contenders in a few years.
I'm just amazed they managed to get Olie to stay. He had a very good year for a very bad team this season, he could have had his pick of several openings. After the way Grahame flamed out this season, Tampa will definitely be in the market (I'm hoping the Bruins can unload Raycroft on them and get something good in return), Ottawa is probably going to be looking for someone to replace Hasek, Toronto needs to replace an utterly ineffective Belfour, Vancouver's net is a mess, there are even rumblings that Dallas is getting sick of Turco being awesome during the regular season then folding like a card table come playoff time. Tampa, Ottawa, Dallas, Vancouver, and maybe even Toronto all have better short-term prospects for success than Washington. The first three all have potential to go very deep with a good goalie. So like I said, I'm surprised Washington was able to keep him. A loyal pro athlete? What's that?
