| More speakers: more possibilities.
On the MINI, the rears do most of the low frequency stuff - especially with the H/K system. Unless the front speakers in the GP are different to the normal stock ones, the sound will be rather empty at the bottom end.
The other reason for lots of speakers is to simplify the amplifiers - each speaker / wiring has a certain resistance which means for more power, you need more voltage. Once you get to where you need 10V or more you need to boost the cars 12V internally which gets complex.
A typical 4ohm speaker will thus run out of voltage at about 25W.
So if you put lots of speakers in, you can send 25W to each and get more overall sound power without needing to make the amplifier too complicated.
[sorry, very OT!]
