It's quite funny you should bring this up. My Dad and I were discussing the other night how MINI have got it right with their positioning of the foot rest.

The whole point of having a rest is so your foot doesn't have to be at the uncomfortable angle on the clutch pedal. The rest in the MINI is set at the foots natural angle when at rest not at the upright angle required by the clutch.

The other issue with rests that are more upright is it increases the risk of catching the left side of your foot against it when trying to depress the clutch resulting in the engine still being engaged in emergency braking situations. If it is in the normal clutch position it is also easy to try and press down on it in an emergency thinking your foot is actually on the clutch.

It was acceptable in the 80's
