"RM40,000 raised for children’s care unit

Story by CHARLES FERNANDEZ

The 7th Charity Jam which was held at the Rumah Peranakan Entertainment Centre, The Saujana Kuala Lumpur recently, raised more than RM40,000, and the amount will be channelled to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (Picu) of University Malaya Medical Centre.

The annual event featured for the first time 18 talented local bands for a fun-filled evening.

This year, the event was organised by the Malaysian Food and Beverage Executives Association (MFBEA), Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH), Saujana Golf and Country Club (SGCC), Chefs Association of Malaysia (CAM), Les Clefs d”Or Malaysia, Harley Motorcycle Owners Club (HMOC), Mini Owner's Club Malaysia (MOCM) Carlsberg and The Saujana Kuala Lumpur.

Picu cares for critically ill children, from newborn to 14 years old.

And each year, an average of 400 children are admitted to the unit with a majority referred by government hospitals.

All proceeds will be used to purchase life-saving equipment and subsidise the cost of medical treatment and care for these critically ill children especially those from an economically disadvantaged background.

Organising committee chairman S.S. Raja said they received more support this year compared to previous years.

“Just by buying the coupons, not only will one be giving hope to thousands of critically ill children, they will also be saving lives,'' he said.

Raja said participating organisations sold food and beverage coupons for RM100 per book of 10 coupons to members and friends.

Unlike previous years, this year's event showcased vehicles by both MOCM and HMOC.

More than 20 Mini Cooper and Harley Davidson machines were exhibited at a special spot within the Rumah Peranakan compound.

There were also fun-filled activities like rides on Harley Davidson motorbikes for a minimum fee of RM10 and a special booth for those who want tattoo, air-brushed on their arms. "

MOCM are looking forward to Our next Charity event:
