Sounds like a gear shaft flexing under load. Vibration might depend on how close the engaged gear cog is to the end of the shaft.

you're thinking along exactly the same lines as me. yes, its there in 4th, 5th and 6th. its evident in 2nd, but barely noticable. I tried it in 1st at 4k with the brake on to load it up, and nothing. so it seems to me its related to the speed of the output shaft

the other explination could be a crown wheel. or pinion maybe.
