I've just installed the MTH Tuner File on my 2004
MCS (currently with Alta CAI and Milltek cat-back exhaust), I've only done a couple of brief drives since uploading the file last night. While I agree with most of the stuff jonnyc says I wouldn't yet describe it as an incredible difference.
The immediately noticeable changes are that my car feels much smoother to drive and throttle response has improved quite a bit as well. There does feel like a small butt dyno improvement in power around the lower-mid rev range, but nothing out of the ordinary. Mind, I certainly was not expecting to achieve the claims of
"approx 200BHP".
I reckon I need a bit more time in the car, especially after resetting the adaptive logic on the ECU, before I can offer a definitive review. Case in point, I've not really had a chance to test out the differences in traction control, although I have snuck ever so slightly past 7000rpm once or twice.
I'll be fitting my 15% pulley in a few weeks as well, so I ordered the map for this
mod at the same time as the regular tuner file. That's a pretty neat touch from MTH. I would like to know more about what the real differences are in each map though. It's kinda cool being able to upload the files yourself as well (I have a friend with the required cable).
I'm a little bit sceptical about the value for money of this
mod, but figured with the pulley it will be a good thing to revise the map once I'm forcing more air in there. So far I quite like the changes it has made, but I'm not sure I would have spent almost AU$600 on just the Tuner file if I wasn't fitting a pulley. I reckon the early adopters that got MTH a few years ago (ie. around the time MTH became a naughty word on MINI2

) got themselves a bargain though.
