Used to be same day but they were getting swamped with private plate transfers so they imposed this 7 day rule. And they stick to it!! My JCW S I just bought sat at the dealers ready to go for 7 days just waiting for my number plate to be transfered!

The 7 Day Minimum is for Cherished Transfers from another vehicle - and has always been the DVLA standard time for this service, they just didn't used to hide behind it as an excuse for being s*** at doing what we pay them to do.

Transferring numbers from retention, or allocating new numbers, are still done over the counter.
