It didn't seem any wider, and again seems more set back (like the pre July 05 cars) than curved out (as with the more recent vehicles). Two modes of motoring: driving and cruising. When I'm driving it's both hands on the wheel and elbows in the air. But when I'm cruising (in the US mind), my elbow is happily resting on the door's armrest and my fingers are lightly wrapped around the steering wheel. Comfy way to travel and my current car allows this quite nicely.
