I can vouch for this, it does work. Its happened to my drivers window about 7 or 8 times so far and a couple of thumps on the door panel sorts it out. I guess it will eventually fail completely but I figure I might as well get as much life out of it as possible. Mine doesn't seem to be related to outside temperature though.....
