Hi cooperluv

There is a mechanical link between the lock barrel and the ignition,s electrical switch ..I have had it before on bm's when the link rod can become detached/missaligned and when you turn youre key to the fully left position the electric switch does'nt go all the way to the left in unison..and remains in the ignition on state...if you take out the key and put it back in as you did it normally cures it...for now! It generally means youre ignition housing assemmbly is on it's way out..but i would'nt of thought that on a new mini..the ignition housing is what the barrel sits in and the switch is mounted to...i have had it before so that i have had to remove the steering cowls and the switch in order to manually pull out the connecting rod from the barrel to the switch..Nightmare!

Anyway i hope this may help you...
cheers
