Just pull hard or use a gentle tap with a soft faced mallet on the underside. Then theres a little plastic finisher collar which clips over the gear lever itself below the ferrule which the gearknob sits on. that slides up into the base of the knob when its fitted to keep it all tidy and neat.
Still not anywhere near the car, so can't post pics, but an instuction sheet is available if you need it
