I have yet to get my car on the track at LRP but I am well acquainted with the BMWCCA events they have there. I am not sure about the specifics of registration but the rest of it works like this:
-There are two ratings for helmets "M" and "S". You need an "S" level helmet, to get on the track.
-You have a tech inspection first thing in the morning where they will approve your helmet, (they put some sort of cheap little sticker on it), and look your car over to see if A) It's track worthy (which won't be a problem with a new car) and B) What class you will be in. Any modifications you have done to your car will be taken into account here. Intake/exhaust, etc. will land you in a higher class with tougher competition.
-As a novice you will have an instructor. These are officially "driver schools" for insurance reasons. Trust me, you want an instructor to show you the lines and generally give advice. The esses are especially wierd in their ingress/egress lines. They will also, in most cases, open the chicane in the back straight to slow people down coming into the downhill right going to the front straight. Intermediates also have instructors I believe. If you have a four point harness or anything similar for yourself you must also have one for the instructor.
-We are going to whip ass in the bendy parts but, unfortunately, we can only pass on the front and back straights as novices. If you move to pass in these areas, which we inevitably will do at some point, keep in mind that some guy with a Z06 Vette or a Supra with a turbo upgrade could be coming up behind you at 170. We will most likely top out at about 120 on the long front straight going into Big Bend.
-Our cars are really going to clean up at autocross events. I have taken the Skip Barber course up at Lime Rock but I am stil going to do many C.A.R.T. events in Waterbury or wherever before I hit up LRP. The first one is on April 13th I think.
-I can't wait for the roads to clean up and the season to start. This is going to rule.
