I also have the auto lights, the only way to tell if they are on is from seeing that the instruments and dash are lit up and from reflections on other cars etc. It's a shame that there's no audible warning when the lights activate.

As stated above though it's impossible to leave the fog lights on as they reset when the car/lights are switched off. You have to physically switch them on everytime you want to use them.
