Offline | R56 MCS Auto 0-62mph figures???? Hi everyone. Does anyone know if the 0-62mph (7.3) in the MCS Auto is achieved by using the paddles, or using normal auto mode?? Cheers, Mark ![]() |

Offline | Not sure about 0-60 times, but I caught this video yesterday that saw the steptronic returning better standing quarter times on a drag strip (see from 03:50 onwards). Still manual for me though. I'll post a link when my post-count allows Tony |

Offline | i believe it is in auto mode with kickdown. the auto is 0.2sec slower to 60, which if the actual manual times are anything to go by, will be more like 6.8-7.0sec. as said before i nother threads, many mags and online auto companies have achieved 0-60mph in as quick as 6.6sec (pistonheads) |

Offline | Avantone, thanks for the link. That is impressive, makes me assume that the 0-62 figure (7.3) is acheived with the normal auto mode. Already have a MCS auto on order for 25th March delivery, so can't wait to get my hands on it.... Cheers, Mark ![]() |

Offline | To get the 0-60mph figures they give is easy with the Auto...just step on the gas pedal!! ![]() Whereas to get the stated figures for the stick you have to really make perfect gear changes..which is very difficult and not repeatable. |

Offline | Correct Scrogg....only if they continue the manual will eventually catch the Auto, after all gearchanges are done (since tha Auto changes gears fatser than an average driver). I did a similar test comparing 2 BMW's 330xi, one Auto, one manual (both 5-speed box)...that Auto is faster when accelerating. |

| What's Next? | I totally agree, but were talking about two completely different scenarios. Dazmac13 brought up the standing quarter mile thing, so I was just responding to that part of the discussion. For everyday use I would be very tempted with an MCS Auto for the very reason you have stated. |

Offline | My guess is that has to do with the gear ratios, which are different between the manual and auto boxes. These figs are for the MCS: Getrag 6sp MT: Gears I - VI : 3.308 / 2.130 / 1.483 / 1.139 / 0.949 / 0.816 Final Drive: 3.647 Aisin 6sp AT: Gears I - VI: 4.044 / 2.371 / 1.556 / 1.159 / 0.852 / 0.672 Final Drive: 3.685 Looks like your answer is right there... the autobox has a MUCH taller 1st gear, and the gap gently tapers off in 2nd - 4th. I'm guessing this is what leads to your slower 0-62 time. As for the 1/4 mile time: The autobox has an ever so slightly longer final drive ratio, and shorter 5th and 6th gears, so I'm guessing that gives it greater legs than the manual once it gets past 4th gear and closer to the 1/4 mile trap. It probably ends up with a higher trap speed as well. |

Offline | surely a longer 1st and second gear wuld mean that acceleration is theoretically facster and that the only reason its slower in terms of time is becasue you cant hang the revs and then dump the clutch????? |
