Offline | Automatic mini - any opinions? Hello all, I have just ordered a new Mini Cooper. Wife insisted on auto as she is used to driving autos, the Mini will compliment our New Mercedes GL320CDI which arrives in March along with the Cooper. Are there any other latest generation Mini Cooper Auto owners on here? I would be interested to know what they think of it. I never drove one as the dealer didnt have one! The spec of the Cooper is; 1.6 Cooper in Chilli Red, black stripes and roof, auto, 17" Flame alloys, red and black seats, front spotlights and the TLC pack (which the dealer put in free for me). ![]() |

Offline | You won't be disappointed. The 6-speed automatic box is state-of-the-art. Very smooth and responsive. Are you planning on keeping it for long? Bi-Xenon headlights, Visability pack and the sport button seem to be the 'must have' options around here! |

Offline | Cheers Stiggy. Those options would have been on the order form however, I had to draw the line somewhere. I would have prefered the panorama roof too but the auto box put paid to that. Glad to hear that the auto is ok. I am used to BMW auto boxes on the 5 and 3 series, so hoping it is as smooth as those. |

Offline | What do you want to know??? It's an auto and a reasonable one at that. Not great not bad. Takes quite a bit of the fun out of a MINI. You do really need to adapt your drving style to it. Worst thing about it, but then again literally all autos do this, is when coming to a corner you lift off to get the entry speed correct. Silly things always assume you're not accelerating any more and changes up ![]() To counter this I usually drop a gear using the paddles, as it gives me back control through the corners. Auto linked to an MCS is far better... MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime ![]() ![]() Unofficial MINI2.com bean counter |

Offline | There are 7 (well 8, but two are the same) different ways to operate the Auto transmission, if you have the "sport" button. If you have the sport button, you have two different cars that will share the same spot in your driveway. ![]() |

Offline | I guess it's the way it's programmed. It's far better suited to that engine. Pull harder stronger and appears to change faster. It's more "at one" with the engine making it a far more pleasurable experience. In the cooper I find it distances the "feel" of the car rather then enhancing it. It's my personnal attention however ![]() MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime ![]() ![]() Unofficial MINI2.com bean counter |

| MINI2 Regular | I find the auto box really good!! I have not owned an auto before and this one has sold me on autos! I do have the cooper s though and not driven a cooper auto. The paddles make a real difference I think if they weren't there then it could be very frustrating! I have had a lot of fun throwing it into corners etc with the sport mode on etc...great little car and gear box |
