Today i was talking to a BMW salesman. Also a friend of the family. I was telling him I will be trading in my 2005 cooper S in the spring of 2007 for a cooper S with the JCW kit... He says oh thats great! Then he tells me that mini has a new engine being put in.The engine will be turbocharged...not supercharged, and the engine will be a Renault engine.also the engine that is in the mini now is too heavy and the renault engine is much lighter and will be better...Has anyone heard of this yet? I'm not sure if i want to get a new JCW in the spring or should i get one and wait for the new engine to prove itself.

yah gotta love a MINI.

The Works Kit for the current generation engine wasn't available until at least a year after the launch, so I doubt the Kit for the new engine will be available in the Spring of 2007

So far i've heard the engines will still be 1.6 but ally blocks rather than heavy iron ones and will be turbocharged. Also heard that they may wait til 2008 for the cooper s to come out

The S will launch along with the One/Cooper as far as I am aware, although that might vary depending on the market, certainly wont be 2008. The S and Diesels (which will be Ford/PSA units "tweaked" for the MINI) will be turbo'd.
