| I am not a number!! | History Repeating itself? Is it really so alien to have a turbo MINI? ![]() Why are some so opposed to loosing the supercharger, which if anything is more alien to the MINI than a turbo? From what I have read about turbos on here, the turbo is more efficent and economical for a car to have? Its easier to tune a turbo car and more reliable? The ERA mini is still one of the most collectable minis, and are very rare, many owners of standard minis would drop in a turbo metro engine for more power, so aren't MINI now just doing what mini owners have wanted for a long time? Its only a forum you know! ![]() |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | True, but I think people like the fact that superchargers are a rare commodity on the road and the noise they produce is unique. The new MINI does appear, on the face of it, to be a slightly watered down version in order to meet regulations and improve economy but the truth won't be known until we can get our hands on one to compare. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

Offline | The current MINI design was also watered down and altered to meet regulations, but we never saw the "MINI that would be" so cant grumble about the lack of indicators in the a pillars, or the light configurations not being what they should be and so on. |

| I am not a number!! | but isn't the rarity due to the fact that compared to a turbo that they are high maintainence and not as reliable or efficent? Just can't get my head round why some are so anti the turbo. Also how they can say that its part of the MINI character, when in fact the turbo is more heritage related than the supercharger? | I am not a number!! | good points Paul, if consumders saw all the features that are pre-production products then they would ask why they got the lower spec model. In everything we buy in todays world features and concepts get dropped due to practicality, cost, and mass market appeal. Its only a forum you know! ![]() |

![]() Time for CHANGE ! | There was an H reg ERA Mini used as an office runabout, It was Nightfire red with sort of porrage coloured seats and a wood dash that looked like quality plywood., used to eat drive shaft joints every 1000 miles or so.Interesting performance and handling on wet surfaces too ![]() |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | A very good point Paul but this is watered down from a production model. The one thing that worries me is the electric power steering. I've yet to drive a car with electric power steering that offers proper feel. This is the one thing I feel lets the CTR down and I hope it isn't the same in the new MINI. However I was sceptical that BMW could get the current MINI to handle like the classic and they did. I really hope they pull this one off. The turbo doesn't bother me in the slightest the figures look good and the only thing I'll miss is the supercharger whine which is reminiscent of the classics gearbox whine ![]() ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

Offline | At slow speeds on the tight slalom section it felt very good, very "MINI" in weight and feel. But we do not know what configuration these cars had. They had no "sports" buttons, but maybe they were in "sports" mode by default, surprise me if not. |

Offline | I always felt the current BMW MINI has no real connection with the old BMC, Leyland, Rover Mini etc. When I was looking for a performance hatch I chose the S as it was supercharged which is different in todays age. Turbo's do the job and are efficient but are dull, had Audi turbo's etc in the past. Always felt a proper performance car should be supercharged not turbocharged. If I want a turbocharged car I will buy a Volvo ![]() |
