Old vs. new steering

I've been reading about the new fully electronic steering system, nothing but good things so far w/ the exception of the Evo shootout w/ the Clio Sport. Evo said it was a bit numb around the straight ahead and lacked the immediacy of the old setup, but said it's still feelsome??? I'm sketch on the new electronic steering system because it's fully electric, I've driven cars w/ these systems before and the feel is very artificial. Can those that have driven the R56 elaborate on the subject?? Thanks!!!

I've just traded in a 52 Cooper for an R56 Cooper S and the steering on the new car feels much better in my opinion. It's lighter but still has a nice feel to it. Even better when the Sport Button is pressed !

The new 3 spoke wheel also has a really nice feel, substantial and has cutouts for your thumbs.

Much lighter at parking speeds, doesn't whine, and is still meaty and direct in fast twisties. In short the best of both worlds

The speed sensitivity is improved, and I find with sport it's a nice weight and feel. There's less vibration, but overall the level of feedback is still very good.

I don't get out of one and into the other and think "Ooh, this feels weird".

yeah, i found it's VERY VERY light when parking, but is very nice at speed too.

i also noticed, tho it may be just my mind playing tricks on me, that it's 1 turn to lock if moving very slowly... is there any truth in this or did i dream it ?

There's less understeer when flinging the car into your favorite roundabouts.

The extra asistance when parking takes a bit of getting used to though
