The Sport button does make a noticeable difference to the steering and the pick up of the engine under hard acceleration but does improve the MPG when cruising on the motorway when switched off. Well worth having. The old MCS was permanently in "sport" mode and as a result drank like a fish. I have got 36 to 40 MPG out my R56 MCS compared to 18 to 28 in my MCSC.

That's an impressive delta Griffer! Are you driving the R56 easier to help those fuel economy figures?

The reason the old MCS had bad FUEL consumption had little to do with throttle responce.

i drive with the sports botton on all the time because i hate a sloppy throttle and i get the same MPG as you. The new MCS engine has been built with economy in mind and is more economical
than my old MC which is amazing.

Hello all, people seem to have sorted this out now but yeah, the sport button just alters the steering and throttle response! All it basically means throttle wise is that with the sport button on, you don't have to press the accelerator pedal down as far to get the same opening on the throttle butterfly! It just makes it more sensitive, no more power or anything. I think it's a good idea though as when it comes to driving in traffic / parking etc you may want the sport button off, if it's on all the time it's a bit more difficult to drive smoothly.

Someone mentioned about the Astra VXR... I test drove one last weekend and that was difficult to drive smoothly all the time, with the sport button on, it was even more sensitive but you'd just get used to it. That sport button also doubled as a button for turning off the traction control / esp. If you held it down for 3 or 4 seconds it turned it off. On reading the brochure I think you could have an option that in controlled suspension stiffness also, not sure if it's the same method but on top gear I saw some car (can't remember what it was) that when you pressed a button it turned on electromagnets in the dampers and moved iron filings that are inside, changing the damping!

The guy that sat in when I test drove the VXR also said that one of his mates has courtney tuned one that when the sports button is on also activates the remap, therefore he has something like 300bhp with it on and the standard 240 with it off, so that's a good idea!

Just a thought...

actually... if that's the way the sport button works, then it would be fun~ say they figure out everything in the ECU, they could let the non-sport mode be stock, and when u press the sport button u go into ULTRASPORT MODE(the remapped map!).

That would turn it into a true "M" button!

So, for the slightly less bright among us (by which I mean me!), what are we actually saying here?

- In traffic, parking, and motorways: Sport Button OFF
- Twisty B roads, not much traffic, when you want to play - Sport Button ON

Is that right?
