Aftermarket Exhaust

Does anyone know if putting an aftermarket exhaust on will invalidate my warranty in any way?

Ask your dealer, it varies.

It will invalidate the warranty on your exhaust, but anything else they would hvae to prove it caused the fault before saying "your new exhaust caused the electronics to fail, no warranty".

However the TLC terms say any modification will invalidate it.

Some dealers though can be a pain and say they wont do any work (which is out of order), others will strangely sitll honour TLC.

I asked my dealer about the warranty if I wanted to upgrade the exhaust and or stereo. For any modifications like this they said it would invalidate the warranty on the part itself and anything connected to it.

I didn't like the 'anything' and couldn't get a straight answer on what that meant. I guess in theory if you change the exhaust then have engine problems they could say they are related and not cover it at all.

They didn't seem to mind the fitment of after market alloys though...

Is this the same as fitting an aftermarket induction kit? i have had one fitted to my mini for about a year and i have had no warranty problems and i would class that as being part of my engine, i have had engine problems since i got it too!!

I guess in most cases you'll be fine, but 'anything connected' is one hell of a get out clause isn't it!

If you have serious engine problems the answer is simple: just remove the new exhaust and then go to the dealer.

A bit costy if it happens more than once having to take your exhaust off then put it back on!
