DIY Diesel Tuning

I haven't read yet about tuning of the new Cooper Diesel.

I've take a look over internet with Google: "diesel+tuning"
The only information I get is about chipping, but I want more than that!
Only chipping is so...

For example, has it sense to install a CAI, an other exhaust, throttle body, manifold etc etc...
All this about petrol engine, there is enough information about and to find. but about diesel and tuning I can't find information.

With tuning I doesn't mean other sound, but increase of performance. The sound you get is just a side issue, but nice.

Not only software changes, but also mechanical changes.

Well at the moment tuning on the R56 is limited even on the turbo petrol version so the TD is unlikely to have much if anything yet.

TD tuning usually means better panel filters in the airbox rather than a replacemrnt CAI, most folks don't touch the manifold due to its links to the turbo unit and the fiddling that could be involved there. The exhaust can be pretty much what you want though as several current old model TD owners run "petrol" exhausts on thier TDs. TD tuning usually is mostly made by inprovemtns to intercoolers, ECU maps (chips) and sometimes fitting bigger turbos (but this is looking harder and harder to do on the R56!).

Good luck but I think you'll be struggling...people don't as a rule buy a TD to then tune it as if you want serrios power you get a petrol I'm afraid...TDs are normally reserved for folk who buy them for reason...practicle (towing due to large torque) or fuel economy.

There's a place in chorley lancashire called TUNIT who specialise in diesels they were featured in one of the GO MINI magazines i'd say give them a call.

Thanks

I know that diesels are normally reserved for folk who buy them for reason; practicle or fuel economy. I don't know I'll order a diesel. It was just thinking about tuning of a turbo diesel.

Now I'm a student, drive in a petrol MINI about 25.000km per year. How much will I drive when I'm a member of the working society? It isn't only the fuel, also the rest value of the car that matters...

Might be worth looking at some Peugeots forums as I believe the Cooper Diesel engine is already in the Peugeot 207.

Yes, that way of thinking I was doing already.

You can also see it like a challenge: a Super Turbo Diesel
That other (MINI) drivers think, 'What the F**K, its a Cooper Diesel!'

I'm not sure this is true............................

Take the VW diesels. An old PD 115bhp Tdi can easily be tuned to output 180+bhp as can the newer 138bhp model. Properly setup a VW diesel can outperform the stock Gti. I have a 204bhp Golf and have had several frights from tuned diesels
I can't believe that MINI don't have a 140bhp-150bhp cooper s diesel up their sleeve and I suspect that aftermarket tuners/modifiers will be able to achieve the same.
The biq question will be will MINI have the will to produce a sports mini diesel?
I suspect they will, not least because finally the US might "get" diesel cars and the sports MINI may well the car to bring this about
