Offline | If you can get one made, the exhuast company (you would hope) would know about how a good exhaust works. To be honest, there's not really a set rule. Every car/engine has a different "sweet spot" when it comes to the exhaust. Ignoring the cat (which is always good to remove in terms of performance, but not road legal) the manifold tends to be the place where most gains can be made , then changing the diameter, routing and baffling of the exhaust itself can also make good gains. However it's not just a case of bigger is better, for those (like me) with limited knowledge exhaust tuning is a black art, where you have to consider flow rates, back pressure and so on, and test, test, test, until you find the magic formula. Take a look at some of the first results from Google: "exhaust tuning" - Google Search ![]() |

Offline | If you're not changing the header before the turbo i'd go for something like this. Look at the picture: as you can see the original exhaust starts right after the turbo with a tight turn before entering the kat, that puts a lot of backpressure on the turbo! I'm not sure if there is enough room but a straight conic section from the turbo diameter to 65 mm and a larger radius curved pipe would be the best, and if the next turn under the engine could be wider, even better. Then go for a 65 (internal diameter!) as straight as possible exhaust, ending with a very light muffler. ![]() A system like this, very similar to what you find on japanese turbocharged cars, would be great IMHO. |

Offline | I say stick with the stock exhaust I will probably get flamed for this, but here goes After market exhausts usually look cr*p, sound terrible (i.e. boy racerish) and probably do virtually nothing for performance. Oh, they will make your insurance more expensive as well ! Red/Black R56 Cooper |

Offline | You asked for it, you get it! That's an amazing bunch of c*ap! A good complete aftermarket exhaust usually looks way better than the stock one, the gain in power depends on the car and on other mods but is almost a sure thing, and i don't know in your country but in italy the insurance costs the same...cause the power remains the same on paper. |

Offline | So these exhausts that look like a large baked bean tin sticking out of the end look good Sorry for being flippant but most of the exhausts you see here look like that. Perhaps people could post pics to educate me Any mod (especially "performance" mods) will most likely increase your insurance premium in the UK. If you neglect to inform your insurance company, your policy may be void. Red/Black R56 Cooper |

Offline | Basically loud does not mean more power. A cherry bomb is loud but does F all to power. On a turbo the straighter the route and freeer the route the better as a turbo is not as reliant on back pressure as a NA or S charged car. Look at the Imprezza etc. Big pipe straight to the back. Not nessisarily true of the R56 but its a start point in terms of turbo car exhaust tuning. |

Offline | Milltek are good and supersprint are ok too. I'd go milltek or wait for GTT to come up with something. I run milltek mani and cat back on my R53 and its fab. |
