Offline | JCW Tuning Kit....questions ? I would be grateful for replies from members who have purchased the kit on the following: - a) Did the insurance premiums increase as a result ? b) What effect did the Kit have on MPG before/after ? Many thanks. |

| MINI2 Master | My insurance increased around £90 per year, but then i only had 10 days with present insurer before changing to new one who saved me and made my premium less than my R53MCS .On the whole i'd say a 10% increase is around the norm. Had my kit fitted since new, but comparing both test drives i had ( std vs JCW ) i'd say it's pretty even, maybe 1-2mpg max. less with the kit. This could be down to 'using' it more ![]() I've averaged 33.1mpg ( OBC ) over first 2000 miles. This is a mixture of urban and city driving. 06 HB/W MCS Chilli |

Offline | MINI Insurance ripoff My (MINI) insurance increased by £130 from £370, about half way through the insurance year. When the documents arrived they showed a 10-20% performance gain. The extra premium by reduced by £4 when the mistake was corrected. New insurer coming up on renewal as I regard this as a total ripoff for a 'mature' driver with clean licence and accident record living in a low crime area. My mpt (or mptank as I normally use) has decreased from 450 to 380, ie back to what it was when the engine was tight during early running in. Of course the much livelier throttle response does encourage more spirited driving. On a recent run on unrestricted European roads I discovered how much the 90-120mph acceleration has improved. Using this performance may have affected the fuel consumption a little! |

Offline | a) Not in the US... but I know your system is different over there, sooooo... a moot point. b) Mine went down on a day-to-day basis... but I think thats 'cause I'm finding it hard to keep from mashing my foot to the floor at every opportunity. The new sound from the exhaust, turbo and Forge BOV is irresistable. I did do a 90 mile trip to and from the dealer before and after the install. Cruise sontrol set as much as possible on both legs of the trip. Post JCW I got a hair over 1 MPG less on my average (I think it was 1.3 MPG if I recall... a 5% reduction for me on the highway). So I think there's some impact... but not too much. Just fight the urge to play at every turn! ![]() Founding member of R56 Anonymous: "Hello. My name is Mike. Offline | A: Not sure how extra we have to pay for the JCW Stage 1 as we bought R56 MCS with it already fitted. B: According to the car, we're getting 37.1 but we're still running in so not going over 4000 rpm.....much. P & T. |
