![]() Taller Than You! | This is very interesting so let me get this straight, in the attached picture where I have coloured red, there are holes which go vertically for noise deadening. You guys have covered the holes up so the bypasses this lump of plastic and goes straight into the filter? ![]() Cheers, Andy Spose I should just take it apart and look ![]() |

Offline | Yep ! 'tis a resonator box which makes a brum (diesel engine like noise) which is supposed to be sporty; bit like blowing over the top of a milk bottle ;} air going in is not getting to the engine, flow is disturbed, power is reduced ... u can either cover the holes or use a tube, pipe to connect the inlet hose to the bit that goes into the air filter housing; my way is quick & easy, James' more fiddly but gives a neater result Does anyone know which in theory is better - a narrower tube, increased pressure = faster flow so more air or a wider tube = more air volume even if travelling slower ? |

![]() Addicted to MINI... | Yup Im very happy. The combination of the two have made a big difference to my car. Its mostly the torque between 1 and 2,000 rpm where the car now pulls much smoother and strongly. I can now plonk it in straight in 5th from 3rd in a 30 zone and it will easily pull from there. Its meant my around town mpg has risen from 35 to 38 which is nice! Noise wise i dont think theres much difference, just sounds a bit happier when cold. Which is another change, my car used to struggle on cold mornings when i changed up a gear the revs would dip and then rise again giving a light jerking action until it had warmed up. this has now completely gone so I wonder if it was related to airflow. By the way my airbox mod that i did with the laminate plastic has worked great, it has stuck well is well worth the 50 pence it cost!! ![]() Chili Red R56 Cooper |

Offline | i would be interested in getting that filter for a cooper in a group buy. Also, I sourced a tube the right length (paint roller ) and put it in the resonator to block the holes. The tube goes right to the end and my concern is that it is actually limiting the air flow a little by having a smaller total diameter, so i am looking at the laminate idea, just a question, to get the whole resonator box off, i see it is connected to the air panel housing but can't see exactly where or how. Also, where did you get your clear laminate from, would high quality duct tape do the job as well ? |

![]() Addicted to MINI... | i removed the whole resonator box, this was done by removing inlet hose from the front and then pulling the box upwards and untwisting it from the back and it simply comes out, very easy to get back in again my doing the opposite and pushing it in to the hole (this can be done by feeling with your fingers) and pushing down (anticlockwise) with regards to the laminate, i got it from makro but it would be available in some bookstores i would imagine, however anything sticky and flexible would do. good luck!Chili Red R56 Cooper |

![]() Taller Than You! | Not had chance to tinker with the resonator box, quickly fitted the filter in the evening on Friday just before a rush down to London. Seems bettter mpg is up, and the journey was fairly *cough* quick Seems to pull better in gear on the motorway too..... |
