R56 Fan On When Off & Locked

Hi this may sound stupid as im supposed to know my thing about cars but is it normal to have your fan come on after you have just turned your engine off and locked your car?

I find it realy odd as no car i have owned before this has ever done it, Nore has anything else i have worked on as far as i am aware.

Basically i turned my engine off, got out, locked the car and started to walk toward my front door, when suddenly the Cooling Fan came blasting on. Seems odd that it would do it with the engine off and the car locked.

Any thoughts or experiences?

Cheers Guys. Joe

The R56 cooling fans are rather unpredictable

Mine will sometimes come on as soon as I start up the car

Completely normal! When you stop driving there is suddenly no air flowing through the radiator, and no water circulating the engine, the heat from the block/head is dumped inro the coolant, and so the temperature spikes. Obviously in response the thermostat triggers the engine cooling fan.;

Nice as long as its not a fault as iv just had my clutch changed and don't want to be going back.

Its strange that working in a garage with turbo conversion etc iv never heard a fan comeon a few minutes after the car was switched off. Suppose you learn something new everyday. Thanks for the help guys, its appreciated.

I've seen one with a DME fault where it activate the fan incorrectly even with the ignition off and car locked.
