Offline | I was having a look at the bi-xenon headlights on the R56 Cooper S yesterday. Wondering how easy it would be to get your hand in to take the indicator bulb out and change it to a silver one. I could see no way of getting any space for getting in at the back of the lights. Looks like to me you would have to take the whole light out. Say it isn't so and I got it wrong. This is the first mod I would like to do. Help anyone else checked. Cooper D (2007) |

Offline | Its looking like that will be the case - I am waiting to get my hands on one - couldn't pull too many parts off the ones at the factory ![]() Crazy design if thats the case, reminds me of the X5. My local dealer charges £100 to change the indicator bulb on one of these ! |

Offline | Ok. Bulbs now arrived from Mikey the Mini - together with replacement bulbs for the halogen headlights - so fixing should ne a doddle. Now I just need a car to put them on (due 18th November - 13 days and counting!) Clear lenses were shown zero cost on my original order, but a revised print out shows them as £50. An interesting point for contract law - since I agreed to buy the car as specced without the £50 charge, I have a case for making the dealer stick with it. But then the issue of mistake comes into it. Don't think I'll sue but I will haggle! R56 AB Cooper |

Offline | It'll be the photons causing a change in energy levels in the electrons in the silver coating thereby causing a change in the emitted wavelength. If you are that old you must have done O level physics? R56 AB Cooper |

Offline | Philips make the bulbs Have a look at the Philips Silverline bulbs, there are other makes too. You can get them off Ebay or Halford etc.. They are an orange glass or internally coated orange, The bulb outside has a very thin metal coating like mirror. So it reflects light hitting it inbound (daylight) but as the bulb is far brighter than daylight it passes through outbound. Much like a one way mirror or that phillips mirror that turns into a LCD television ? Very common mod on E46 BMWs to get rid of the "fried egg" effect in the indicator got them on my BM bike too, its never failed its MOT. What R56 owners needs to know is what type of bulb the indicators will be, Another option would be someone to make some LED replacement bulbs like the M3 they would be cool.. ? another common Bike mod.. MA - TAminis other harf... |
