Spot lights

Took delivery of my mini the other day and when i went to pick it up i noticed the spot lights are not in a fixed position horizontally. i.e they swivel from side to side a bit. The dealer told me this is how they were intended, but after driving at night with them on, you can really see the lights moving over bumps. Anyone else noticed this ? or is just my car ?

just means they vibrate up and down as they're only fixed on 1 point.

this is like putting a piece of bluetak on a straw, and shaking the bottom, the movement will be amplified the other end.

you cant stop this, it's physics. unless, of course, you fashioned a mounting bar that went from the top of the spot light to the bonnet itself.

Surely they should not move horizontally though? As in left/right?

would a light move horizontally due to a vertical bump tho ?

i doubt you'd be able to distinguish a horizontal movement of a spotlight as much as you would be able to distinguish a vertical one...

yeh mines move from side to side aswell. can't say I've noticed a wobble when on main beam.

figure this was how they are meant to be as the spot lights on my LandRover D3 do exactly the same.

I have had a closer look at the spot lights today and there is a support that protrudes from the front grille (built in) and mounted on this post is a U shaped bracket with a pin thorugh it securing the light. The movement from side to side is the lights swivelling on these pins. (I'll take a picture tomorow) I don't really see how they can be fixed in position which is quite annoying.
