Offline | Legally, they can only refuse to do warranty work if a fault develops that they can prove is caused by the fitting of non-manufacturer parts or the fitting of. Say for example you fit a panel filter and something goes wrong with the engine, they may be able to refuse work saying it was a filter that caused it - although a decent dealer should see sense. However, if you fit a non-standard body kit, they cannot refuse work on faults if it is completely unrelated to the fault. Similarly if you want to go to a trusted independent garage for servicing or repairs, MINI (or any other manufacturer) cannot refuse any warranty work as long as you use recommended parts. |

Offline | Yep, as Ken says. If, say, the back bumper started to fall off, BMW would be within their right to refuse warranty work as it was not fitted by them. However, if something goes wrong with the engine, they can't blame it on the fitting of the kit! It's pretty logical really. ![]() |

| Deals Gap Junkie | LOLERCOASTER!!! You warranty nuts need to take a deep breath; the engine isn't going to explode and the suspension fall off and all airbags deploy because you properly changed the bumper yourself versus some monkey getting paid virturally nothing with no reason to do a proper job. ![]() ---> KenL: Yes the dealerships get paid for warrantly work, however they get paid a FRACTION what they would for normal service. The dealership is in its best interest to hassle you for the full monty. It is however not acceptable for them to try to rip you off for an unrelated issue; i.e. different bumper causing a manufacturing defect in a con-rod. ![]() |
