Offline | Spot Light Fitting Warning I word of warning to all members about to fit there own spot lights. Do not go on UK fitting instructions as useless and very misleading, the pictures are all wrong they seem to be for left hand drive car and do not tell you all the parts that need to be removed to do the job properly. 1. tools 10mm & 13mm sockets and long and short bars, Trim tool, allen key, Pliers, and get plenty cable tie,s black small and medium 2. Remove front grill use trim tool to take clips at top of grill out, remove chrome on grill and refit to new grill, Note the glue on the clip on the chrome needs picking out to free. 3.Please note no mention of this Important part on UK instructions. Remove battery lid cover and lift rubber stripe at front of battery half way along, and be carefull removing the trim on top of battery lift and it is split at the passengers wiper, after trim on top of battery removed, unscrew battery clip and remove Negative and positive battery terminal. Know lift out the battery and lay on flat clean surface make sure no stones. Remove the three 13mm bolts holding the battery tray for easy access to the main wiring loom. 4. Remove plastic housing over the wiring loom coming into car in the area that the battery was in 3 clips, then pull out a spare channel in the grommet and cut the top of to get the cables through when needed. 5. Passanger side panel at bonnet catch has to be roved careful you don't break the trim clips, i just left the seat belt bolt at the back but would be easier if whole trim was off, next unscrew the plastic nuts on the control unit at the side under the bonnet pull top bottom 10mm, locate bottom plug on side with two plugs should find yellow with blue stripe same as single on the spots wiring loom, you will have to connect to this later. 6. tape the ends of the loom that are to go to the spots then offer the wire up to the grommet under the dash though the hole you cut earlier and pull through into battery box gently leaving enough in the car for the fuse holder and relay to fix to loom under the dash. 7. Remove bolts each side of engine bay fuse box two 10mm lift back, now direct your wires under the battery box holder you unbolted and through the next grommet and pull out under the fuse box make sure you keep to wiring loom route and away from shat metal. Fix the brown cable eyelet to the 6m bolt under the fuse box on the body unscrew , you will have to unscrew bolt to do this the pull cables that are for the spot lights and fix to wiring loom refit fuse box loosely and connect the 8m eyelet with the single wire double check instructions for the colours i think blue and red unscrew bolt with big connector at rear of fuse box and connet this cable. 8. Inside the car locate wire yellow and blue stripe on controller , make sure this is correct or will do damage use scotch lug connector and use middle for connection to the loom at the plug and then connect same colour single wire on the spots loom wire to the connector and use a pliers to squeeze tight then use cable ties to fix fuse holder and fit relay into holier and cable tie to loom make sure clear of all panels etc. 9.Now follow the loom to the front of car with the cables then put left spot light cable through the hole in the plastic at the edge of the grill and cable for other side i put along the front over top of expansion tank and cable tied to the bonnet release cable and make sure you keep the cable clear of the bonnet catch release the route through same hole as other side and fit plastic plugs to wires. 10. next remove bumper torx bolt and 13 mm nut beside it and disgaurd then fit spot light brackets both and tighten to correct torq then if trim fitted to new grill slot grill in place loosely and connect one spot need a hand here screw in place and put wires under the bracket to the area of other cables then push grill in at bottom and fit other spot and fix both plugs and i cable tied the plugs onto the spot bracket 11. Now fix battery box and fit battery and connect the battery and ready to try spots to see all OK come on with full beam if OK fix battery and make sure all cables secured to loom and away form any metal etc, then refit panel at windscreen and all other panels 12. Adjust spots to correct height now Please note this is for someone that has good basis of diy and car work and if i had the info i had above would have fitted in 2.5 hours not the 5 hours it took as no mention of removing the trim above battery etc and please note i AM note this my experience and cannot be responsible if you try this your self. Please use the instructions for fitting the cables in the correct manner. Hope this helps and i will be emailing Mini with this major errors in there instructions as cost me 2 hours of wasted time and frustration. ![]() |

Offline | The US instructions are not much better, lots of oppertunity for screwups. Thank goodness I had the time, patience and knowledge to complete the task. This is a job that you dont rush . I had to remove all the trim above the battery( both sides . To do this I had to remove both windshield wipers. To remove these I had to buy a wiper arm puller and modify it to fit the the splined shaft. ( not enough room between the shaft and hood { bonnet} ). Anyhow everything worked out ok. Really ugrrades the front of the R56. |

Offline | Hiya - just picking up our Oxygen Blue Mini2 One on monday once the Viper stripes have been applied! Just need some spot lights but can't justify spending another £300+ at the dealers, so will fit myself (full of confidence!) Question is - is the spot light kit available from the likes of MiniSport universal for the Mk1 & Mk2 Mini's? Why do i need a new grill - we also have a MCS with spots and the bracket is just rivetted into the clam shell? Cheers Graham |
