United-Kingdom R56 Cooper or Cooper S dilemma??!!

Hi everyone

I'm probably gonna get no replies because my thread is so trivial but its a big decison buying a new Mini & I'd like some advice please!!!!

I've got a 2003 Chilli red/white roof with white 15" 7-hole alloys - v. basic car but as time went on I saw how much spec you can get on a Mini.

I'm thinking about upgrading to an R56 & saw a gorgeous Pure Silver on the forecourt of my local dealership yesterday with a black roof, 17" flame spoke allloys(which I would ask to be changed as not too keen on those) clth/lea ray rooster red & colour line in red, darkened rear glass & vipers (silver on the roof). It did look stunning & I love it but it was next to the Laser Blue MCS & I was in a dilemma. But as a typical girly who likes things to look nice, do I need the extra power?? or just because the MCS looks smarter & sportier etc.........I just don't know now but I better think fast as they might sell quickly!! On the other hand I do also like the Electric blue MCS with a black roof & of course would cost me less.

Cheers, Ali x

Ali,

When wifey and I test drove both, Clare felt the Cooper was plenty fast/fun enough for her - combined with the better mpg, lower insurance and in our case gave us more to spend on options we felt the Cooper was the best option.

Cheers

as in my wife was happy with the Cooper power - of course the S was quicker with more torque, however my wife felt she didn't need it

Also I have little influence over my wifes choices - she wants, she gets

You're right there Kaine I get what I want too, hubby has a Subaru Impreza & wants us to go halves on a new one but I love Mini's too much, we'll never agree so he's letting me buy a new one!!

You're also right on the other point as I like all the extras I could buy over the extra bhp

If you won't use the extra power, there probobally isn't much point going for the MCS apart from the looks.

Have you thought about a Cooper D? If I didn't want the power of the MCS I would definately go for the Cooper D over a Cooper - the only problem is the waiting list.

Test drive both... then see what you like. Power on teh MCS is addictive though so don't test drive one without accepting you might love it.

You might think this sounds daft - but take it seriously - it can be a very expensive mistake

MCS MCS MCS MCS MCS!!!!!!!

I test drove both, MCS is miles better.

Fuel economy, who cares! Soon all the oils going to run out anyway, then you will regret being a scrooge.

You need to decide on 1st or 2nd gen as your looking at both. It might be the drive difference or the interior that swings it. Also take your time theres no shortage of MINI's.

are budget, insurance, running costs/mpg, performance factors for you ?

sounds naff but make a list & score the 2 out of 10 ... add up the scores, see which wins & buy the other ;}

seriuosly, depends if you want quick or v quick - if u drive the mcs you will want one !

Even though the MCS is pretty economical, what a silly thing to say

Red/Black R56 Cooper Stripes, CHILLI, ASC+T, MINI HiFi, Piano Black Dash, Red Colour Line, Heated Mirrors/Jets, Spare Wheel, Smoker Pack!
Mods - Cooper S pedals, Cheqered interior mirror, chrome side repeaters

It depends on what you want. Did you say you drive a One or Cooper at the moment?

I used to be a girl that saw a car as a pretty thing that got me from A to B. However since driving a MINI all of that changed and I became hooked. I owned a Cooper for a year and have recently bought a MCS as I quite fancied more power.

I have driven the R56 S and thought that was a good car very economical compared to the MCS but decided to go for the MCS as the whole driving experience seemed more 'fun'.

I can only suggest going for a long test drive in both and seeing which would suit your needs more...

Good luck!

Milly, I drive a Cooper at the moment, she's cute but I'm ready for an upgrade.
I think everyone is right I need to go and test drive all the options, I just would feel like I was messing the dealer around going in & saying 'oh can I test drive 3 different models!!!' but thats what they're there for I guess. Theres hundreds out there I know so its just waiting for the right spec to come along I can get 5% forces discount on a brand new one so I might go for that option if I go for a 56/07 model

Hey don't worry about feeling like you are messing them around, they do anything to score a sale at the end of the day!

I know I probably will!! I'm moving up to Scotland in 3 weeks time so I'm waiting for a while then I'll no doubt go & buy a new one. Read a few forums about people who've had probs & worried that the 56/07 with low miles are the ones people have decided to give up on. Quite fancying Pure Silver as theres loads of Laser Blue ones about.
